From the shoulders up is a working-class man. There are not yet signs of grey in his brown beard or in the hair showing from under his black cap, but the lines around his mouth, eyes, and between his brows evidence many years of expression. In three-quarters profile, he stoically stares straight ahead. From beneath his beard a reddish-pink scarf curves around the back of his neck. He wears a brown shirt and over that, a light purple coat.
