Two Allied soldiers deftly step on a prone, sweating German soldier (who holds a letter addressed to Rommel) and shake hands as they meet in northern Africa. German Field Marshal Rommel (aka “The Desert Fox”) gained fame and esteem among friend and enemy alike for his skillful direction of Axis troops in northern Africa. The fallen Nazi in this drawing could apparently have used Rommel’s help. Rommel was recalled from northern Africa to Europe in March 1943, the year of this political cartoon.
